Elixir of the Earth of Abruzzo
Ratafià is a typical liqueur from Abruzzo obtained by infusion of sour cherries in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine D.O.C. as in the best tradition. Excellent with fruit, sublime with pastries and typical sweets.
As Alessio de Berardinis reports in "Memories on the Manufacture of Wines and Spirits" (Teramo 1868) "the name ... was given to him by the use that the ambassadors of the belligerent powers had when they treated peace at a happy table, to drink this liquor and to pronounce those simple Latin words Pax rata fiat! ".
The liquor was consumed to sanction commercial agreements or the stipulation of notarial deeds.
Ingredients: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo D.O.C., sugar, alcohol, sour cherry juice, flavorings.
